Uga VII, We Barely Knew You

As if UK didn’t already have enough forces working against them for their game against Georgia on Saturday, the ‘Dogs will now be playing with heavy hearts, as the Good Lord decided to preemptively claim Uga VII, the Bulldogs’ beloved mascot.  Uga was just four, or twenty-eight in dog years.

From the AJC:

“Uga VII passed away suddenly Thursday morning at his home in Savannah. At 4 years old, he was practically a pup and had served as Georgia’s mascot for not even two full football seasons when he unexpectedly succumbed to heart problems.”

“Burial details have not been finalized. The mascots are interred in a mausoleum built in the southwest corner of Sanford Stadium. Georgia is the only university in the nation to bury its mascots within the confines of its stadium.”

I really, really wanted to make fun of this, but my dog just died and, honestly, it kind of makes me sad.  RIP, Uga.  Lexpatriates welcomes Uga VIII!

AJC: Uga VII, Georgia’s beloved football mascot, dies

Deadspin: Uga VII Is Dead, Long Live Uga VIII!

  1. RIP – UGA the 7th, was only 4 years old but he had a job, adoring fans and a lineage to be proud of. And now the mascot of the University of Georgia is gone
